Description :
The grapes for the Friendly Gruner are grown in the Kamptal region of Austria. Here, the Grüner Veltliner ripens in granite, gneiss, mica-slate as well as loess soils. And from the neighboring region to the north, the rugged Waldviertel, blows cool air that substantially lowers night temperatures in the Kamptal; this in turn slows up the ripening process of the grapes. But these conditions are exactly why the wines from this region taste so fresh and fruity. The New World calls the phenomenon "Cool Climate Viticulture". And wines from these cooler regions are highly respected and treasured.

The Potential
The Kamptal has nearly 4,000 hectares of vineyards. Of these, more than 3/4 is planted with white wine vines, with 2, 000 hectares reserved for Grüner Veltliner alone. However, the fantastic potential of the Kamptal is still largely unknown internationally.

The Variety
Grüner Veltliner is Austria's showpiece grape. It yields concentrated, harmonious wines rich in finesse and with a long life potential. Veltliner wines are reliable in their development. They bring pure enjoyment in their youth, and guarantee utmost drinking pleasure in maturity. Austria represents less than 1% of the world's wine production. Therefore, gaining recognition as a wine country means that a few points must be emphasized. Grüner Veltliner makes up a third of Austria's entire wine production - making it the ideal ambassador for a clear Austrian wine profile - both at home and abroad. Lenz Moser III - the grandfather of Lenz M. Moser - always propagated this variety, and found it to be an optimal grape for the Lenz Moser Hochkultur, or high culture, vine training system, which he developed.
